“Be seen. Be heard”
The classic, elegant style of the Prada company has many fans for a reason. With its designs, Prada stands for Italian elegance like no other company. Classic shapes are wrapped in the finest materials and always set a few highlights with gold or silver details. The bags are designed to be carried to different occasions and outfits. A black Galleria cuts a fine figure both in the office and with rocking combinations with a leather jacket. Despite its long history, Prada is today fresher than ever and also knows how to please again and again with unusual special editions. Colorful prints on noble, finely shiny Saffiano are no rarity and are among the fans particularly coveted collector's items.
Originally, the company founded in 1913 made a name for itself with luxurious leather items. From classy suitcases to soft gloves, Prada offered elegant luggage for any weather. Originally founded as "Fratelli Prada" by brothers Mario and Marino Prada, the company was appointed royal purveyor to the court in 1919. Even in the beginning, the company also had handbags in the classic sense on offer. After Mario Prada's death in 1958, his daughter Luisa took over the management of the company. In 1958 after the death of the founder of the company, his daughter Luisa took over the management. 20 years later she retired from the company and transferred the management to her three children. Under the management of Miuccia Prada the company experienced a rebirth. The until then rather staid label was soon known for creative designs and experiments with different materials. Also the design of the new, triangular logo has its origin in this time. In 1984 the backpack "Vela" was introduced, made of black parachute silk and with this new logo the model became a great success. This heritage is still demonstrated today in Prada's Tessuto collection.
Among the most famous bags of the company is undoubtedly the Galleria collection bags. Coherent proportions and sophisticated details make the bags bestsellers of the house to this day. Whether as open Tote Bag for everyday life or as a mini variant for evening occasions, there is a suitable variant for every purpose. The bags are mostly offered in Prada's in-house Saffiano leather variant. Other obese bags of the house are the small bags of the Cahier series. The bags are small works of art and with their attention to detail and diary look both elegance and playfulness at the same time. Other classics from the house are the bags from Prada's Tessuto collection. The bags were already in demand at the beginning of the 2000s, and are still in production today; recently, even re-editions have been released.Likewise, the bags are an inspiration for many young fashion chains in terms of shape, color and choice of materials. Hardly a large fashion house that does not stock at least one Prada Tessuto copy on the shelves.
Saffiano leather is one of Prada's in-house ladies' varieties. This leather catches the eye with its fine cross-hatching and matte sheen. Saffiano leather comes in a variety of color options and is one of the company's signature pieces, along with its logo.
Prada's Vitello Daino leather possesses a natural, grained image. The leather falls softer than Saffiano leather and represents another popular in-house variant. In particular, Tote Bags benefit from the feminine fall and the robustness of the leather in everyday use. Vitello Daino leather is offered in many color options. The most common colors are black and brown.
Since 2020, Belgian designer Raf Simmons has been the creative co-head of Prada. The latter has been successful with his own collections since 1995. Previously, he also worked for Jil Sander, Dior and Calvin Klein, among others.
